Are you a surfer or water skier looking for a great place to catch some waves in Australia? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Australia is home to some of the best surfing and water sport beaches in the world. Yes—the world! While it was hard to narrow them down, here are five of the best Australian beaches/places suggested by our friend, Waterskiers Connection. The list is for all you water lovers out there.

1. Gold Coast

You’ll find tons of surfing, skiing, and wakeboarding opportunities along Queensland coast, and Gold Coast beaches are no different. The long, sandy strips provide a great place to stretch out, dry out, or simply sit out and people watch. Often called a surfer’s paradise, you’ll find a variety of swell sizes, onlookers, and other water lovers who will surely be out trying to catch a wave or two as well. Rent some equipment to try out water skiing, wakeboarding, or surfing if you haven’t before (or if you simply forgot it!) at a great price for a full day of adventure and adrenaline.

2. Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach has frequently been considered one of the safest and most popular beaches in Eastern Australia. Situated close to the city, you’ll find a ton of board rentals and other beginners out trying to catch a wave or two. Rent some affordable wakeboarding gear and explore all Bondi has to offer, from the novice-size swells to the stunning landscape. Go during the week or early morning to miss the crowds.

3. Cactus Beach

Tucked away in the untouched wilderness of South Australia, Cactus Beach is home to a largely secluded stretch of sand that almost guarantees perfect skiing or surfing conditions. You’ll be able to ride some huge waves, relax in the sun, and view the pristine natural conditions that have largely been left untouched. However, this area isn’t for beginners—large swells, lack of onlookers, and turbulent winter waters means this destination is best left to the experts.

4. Bells Beach

Bells Beach, located in Victoria, has been recognized for its massive swells year-round, beautiful landscape, and incredibly vibrant music festivals since the 1970s. This beach is great for those who are looking to explore, catch a huge wave, or intermingle with locals and beachgoers. Full of rentals, food, and shopping centers, this beach is a real hotspot during the summer. Ski or surf here for a while, then take a short drive down the road to visit up to five other legendary surfing spots in the area.

5. Margaret River

Nestled in the heart of Australia’s wine region, Margaret River is host to the annual Drug Aware Margaret River Pro— a highly regarded (and competitive) annual surfing competition. Be prepared to share the area with locals and tourists alike during the summer months, but hit the beach in the winter to catch massive waves and a smaller crowd. With pristinely blue water and jutting cliffs, you'll want to come back to this beach time and time again.

Well, that rounds out the list for the best places to go surfing and skiing in Australia! And don’t fret if you don’t have the proper water ski equipment on hand—you’ll find pop-up tents full of water ski gear for sale or rent scattered around nearly all of these beaches. Most equipment stands are affordable and budget-friendly too. So pack up your trunks, your wakeboarding gear, and head to the beach to catch some waves!
