Griffith is a town of around 25,000 people located in
New South Wales, Australia. Although it is a small town, Griffith offers plenty of nearby attractions to tourists.
There are several hotels to choose from, so finding Griffith accommodation shouldn't be a problem. Those looking for an easy way to move around the area should consider Griffith car hire (easy to find on
carhiregriffith.net.au, where they list all agencies in town.)
Cocoparra National Park
Among the top Griffith attractions is the
Cocoparra National Park. It's located about 15 miles (25 km) from the town and is a favorite location among the birdwatchers and bush walkers.
There are a couple of interesting tracks to pursue within the park. One is Falcon Falls. While walking past these waterfalls, it's possible to see local birds. Another track is Jacks Creek where scenic views among a gorge and ridges await. Both tracks are relatively short to cover.
Altina Wildlife Park
Within a driving distance from Griffith, there's another spot for wildlife lovers. Altina Wildlife Park is a place to see kangaroos, emus, parrots, crocodiles and other animals.
In addition to local wildlife, numerous foreign species, such as American Bison or Asian Water Buffalo, have been introduced to the park.
Hermits Cave
Hermits Cave is located on a hill above the city. It is where one recluse named Valeri Ricetti lived for ten years from 1929 to 1939. He created his own housing, built a chapel, and had grown gardens. Visitors to this place are able to follow trails to the caves.
Lake Wyangan
This lake is located only 7-8 miles (12 km) from Griffith. It is popular among families where picnics, fishing, and boat rides take place. There's also an unpowered campsite around.
The lake was actually created back in 1950 on a gypsum mine. Now, it's a beautiful recreational area.
Griffith wineries
Griffith is also a home to wineries, including Riverina Wine Makers, a top producer of wine in Australia. While in the town, it's possible to visit these wineries and taste some local wine.
Griffith museums
Despite its small size, there are museums based in Griffith. One is Griffith War Memorial Museum, the other is Griffith Pioneer Park Museum. These are the places to visit for history fans and those interested in local history.
Caravan Park
Caravan Park Griffith is another accommodation option. While there, various units, cabin vans, and bunk houses can be rented. Those with their own vehicles can rent either powered or unpowered sites.
Griffith is a place filled with art galleries, rotary markets, and nearby farms including cotton and fruit salad farms. Despite its small population, it's a town with many things to do as you get to explore Australia.
